After a workplace injury, I found myself in need of a new career and was drawn to health and safety. Once I acquired the necessary education and certifications, I jumped into a WSIB Workwell Audit for a mid sized contractor in London Ontario.
Upon successful completion of that audit I was on to my next adventure, a four month contract on the US Military base, Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. Working as Safety Lead in the maintenance department, I was responsible for developing training programs and procedures for the mostly foreign national workforce.
When my contract was up, I returned to Canada and accepted a position as Director of Health and Safety with a large national ICI general contractor. I have spent 11 years developing programs and procedures, and created a successful safety management system, that has a 7 year no-lost-time record.
As I approach retirement I am eager to share my knowledge and proven safety programs that are affordable for smaller contractors with limited safety budgets.
